On Sunday morning in Boston Johnny Crain and Nicole DiMercurio took to the streets with thousands of Bostonians for the BAA 10k. Both the men’s and women’s professional fields were stocked full of domestic and international talent. Crain battled throughout the race for top American honors as he remained part of a prominent chase pack behind the lead pack of 5 for the first 8k of the race. As the race entered the final mile the chase pack began to splinter, led by US Half Marathon Champion Chris Derrick. Derrick would go on to lead the American finishers with Crain coming in 15 seconds behind in 29:15. Crain’s strong run was good enough for an 11th place finish overall and 4th among Americans.
In the women’s race DiMercurio was returning to Boston for her first race since finishing 5th in April’s Boston Marathon. DiMercurio had a fantastic effort in her return from a foot ailment she suffered during the marathon. DiMercurio finished 11th overall and was the top American finisher in the field. Next up for DiMercurio will be the Peachtree Road Race on July 4th in her hometown of Atlanta. Crain will see action a few days later at the Utica Boilermaker 15k on Sunday, July 8th.
