As you build back into training, especially if you’re doing so as the weather is warming, it’s important to understand that the improvement process isn’t always linear. Our expectations coming back from a training break are often that we will progressively feel stronger every day until we are back to our prior fitness level.
Sometimes this is true, but more often as our body adapts to the increasing stress of the build-up our bodies will go through the ups and downs of dealing with that increased stress. That means you may have some windows of fatigue where you actually feel worse than you did the previous week. This is common as you adjust back to a full training load, but have the discipline to stick with it and you’ll soon be back to feeling stronger than ever.
