Joanna will be racing her first marathon since the 2020 Olympic Trials over a year and a half ago this weekend in New York. Since the Trials in Atlanta, Joanna has made a major life move, leaving Blowing Rock for New York City and enrolling in a graduate program at NYU. She has begun her career in science writing as part of her degree program and serves as an assistant coach for the NYU cross country team.
Despite all those changes, one constant has remained, racing and competing as part of the On ZAP Endurance team. Joanna has focused on getting 100% healthy and competing at regional races throughout most of 2021. That approach has left her achieving some of her best fitness in years as she toes the line for the New York City Marathon this weekend, her new hometown race.
The professional women’s field begins Sunday morning at 8:40am eastern time and you can catch the coverage live on ESPN2 from 8:30-11:30am. You can also follow Joanna through the live tracking here or by downloading the race app.
