Amanda 6th at NYC Mini 10k

Amanda Vestri’s signature breakout performance last year was at the New York Mastercard Mini 10k. The race is run through Central Park and features a world-class field each year. Last year Amanda covered a mid-race move, the only American to do so, by 3 of the world’s best runners. She would finish 4th in 31:17, stamping herself as a contender for the Olympic 10,000m team.

This past weekend, Amanda returned to New York and on a warm, muggy morning, made it a point to be the aggressor in the race. Amanda made her intentions clear early, running from the front and slowly winnowing down the lead pack over the first 3 miles. Olympic medalist Helen Obiri would assert herself up front over the races 2nd half before pulling away for a victory. But much the same way she did in 2024, Amanda showed tremendous grit with her 6th place finish. And despite significantly worse conditions, her time of 31:20 was only 3 seconds slower than a year ago.

Tristin Colley also competed, albeit in a much different place in her training cycle. Only a few weeks removed from the Boston Marathon, Tristin couldn’t resist the offer to race one of her favorite races of the year, despite being early on in her return to training. Tristin ran 33:34 and will use this to launch a summer road racing campaign that will have her seeing 2 more 10k’s, June 22nd at the BAA 10k in Boston and July 4th at the Peachtree Road Race.

Amanda will be back in action next weekend at the US 4 Mile Championships before she takes a light week before gearing up for her final push to the US Track & Field Championships at the end of July.
