Amanda Vestri is headed to Eugene, Oregon this week to compete in the US Track & Field Championships at both 5,000m and 10,000m. A year ago in her first year as a pro Amanda finished 5th at the US Olympic Trials in the 10,000m, the event she will tackle first this weekend.
Amanda is fresh off her first national championship, a dominating win at the US 6k Championships, taking positive momentum into Eugene. Her primary event, the 10,000m, takes place Thursday evening at 7:45pm pacific time. Amanda is seeded 9th heading into the meet, but has put together a season that indicates a lot more is possible. She was the 8th seed a year ago before finishing 5th at the Olympic Trials. This spring she has improved her 5,000m PR from 15:13 to 15:01, won the 6k title, and clocked an impressive 31:20 10k on a muggy morning in Central Park.
After her 10k on Thursday night, Amanda will have 3 days rest before coming back Sunday afternoon in the 5,000m final. Her 15:01 is the 13th seed in the 24 woman field.
