Annmarie Tuxbury continued her post-Olympic Marathon Trials racing season this spring with her best result yet, a 1:29:18 8th place performance. Competing against a very strong field, Annmarie linked up with a small chase pack early before breaking away from that group over the 2nd half of the race to run herself into the top 10. Annmarie passed the half marathon mark in 1:15:05 and closed things down to average 5:45 pace overall for the 25k distance (15.5 miles.)
This race for Annmarie has been part of a spring that has seen her take a slightly different approach. After focusing on the marathon for much of the last 2 years, and running several, Annmarie wanted to get back to more racing. In the past she has often used smaller races to build her fitness toward a bigger goal. Those smaller races are a great way to engage in and practice racing, while also building positive momentum through the training cycle.
Annmarie won the PTI Runway 10k in Greensboro, finished 12th at the Cooper River Bridge 10k, and finished 3rd at the Tarheel 10 Miler as part of her buildup toward the 25k. Even though she felt the gears grinding a little bit coming off the Marathon Trials Annmarie continued to trust the training and herself and posted her best result of 2024 this past weekend.
