ZAP Fitness-Reebok sent four athletes up to Boston to open up their fall racing season on October 27th in the Mayor’s Cup Cross Country race. The men’s race is 8,000m long and featured a competitive field up front, including ZAP-Reebok athletes Cameron Bean, Tyler Pennel, and Cole Atkins. The three ZAP-Reebok athletes positioned themselves up front early with Bean pushing from the front. As the men approached the hill in the course the 2nd time with just over a mile to go Bean surged to the lead and never looked back. Bean held on for the win down the homestretch in 23:56, outpacing the 2nd place finisher by 2 seconds. Pennel was the next ZAP-Reebok runner to cross the line in 6th place followed by Cole Atkins in 8th.
For Bean it was a brilliant start to the fall after coming off the best track season he’s ever had in 2013 where he ran a personal best time and ZAP-Reebok Club record of 8:32 in the 3,000m Steeplechase and qualified for his first US National Championship where he made the final. Bean and Atkins will next see action in the HCA Richmond 8k on November 16th and Pennel will compete in the .US National Road Racing Championships November 17th in Alexandria, VA. Mary Ballinger competed in the women’s 5,000m race where she took 19th place.
