The ZAP-Reebok women had a strong showing in their final race before the Boston Marathon on Sunday at the Virginia Beach Shamrock Half Marathon. The duo of Nicole DiMercurio and Joanna Thompson moved into the lead just past 4 miles and would remain there for the duration of the race. DiMercurio hammered the 2nd half of the course to take the win in a new personal best and course record of 1:13:15. Thompson maintained their early pace over the back half and finished 2nd to secure the ZAP-Reebok sweep.
DiMercurio chopped nearly a minute off the 1:14:10 personal best she ran in Richmond this past fall, 3 weeks prior to her 11th place finish at the US Marathon Championships where her 2:36:01 qualified her for the 2020 Olympic Marathon Trials. DiMercurio and Thompson have 4 weeks before they join teammate Tyler Pennel on the start line in Hopkinton for the Boston Marathon.
