For the 2nd year in a row a ZAP-Reebok athlete took the title at the Statesman Capital 10k in Austin, Texas. A year ago ZAP-Reebok teammates Andrew Colley and Johnny Crain ran to a 1-2 finish at Texas’ largest 10k and this year it was Joe Stilin’s turn to break the tape. A week after running 29:07 in his 10,000m track debut Stilin returned to Austin for the first time since finishing his masters degree in 2013 at the University of Texas.
The race played out similarly to last year with the hilly first half being relatively conservative. Stilin tucked in behind 2 other runners as they passed 5k in 15:23. At that point Stilin took control of the race and was quickly clear of the field. Stilin blitzed the 2nd 5k in 14:39 and cruised to a 42 second in 30:03. Stilin will return to action this Saturday at the BAA 5k in Boston where he will compete alongside teammate Brandon Doughty.
