ZAP Endurance’s Josh Izewski & Tyler Pennel are set to compete at the Berlin Marathon this Sunday, September 24th. The Berlin course is known for producing fast times and both Tyler & Josh will be chasing personal bests this weekend.
Both have run personal bests at the marathon in 2023. In January, Tyler was 5th at the Houston on a 60+ degree day, running 2:12:15. Josh ran the Gold Coast Marathon in Australia just 12 weeks ago, where he tied the ZAP record with his 5th place, 2:11:26 performance.
Tyler struggled briefly in the spring with a hamstring injury but was able to put together a short racing window late in the spring. As the summer has worn on however, Tyler has regained the form that saw him run a personal best in Houston this winter. In Berlin, both he and Josh will be looking for more.
There are a number of pace groups set up for race day, including a large contingent of men scheduled to run with a 1:05:00 group through halfway. As of now, the group running 2:10 pace is reported to be up 20 athletes. That will be a large pack of men running 4:57 per mile, but if that remains true, it will create a lot of momentum through the streets of Berlin that Tyler and Josh will look to take advantage of.
The race begins at 9:15am local time (3:15am eastern.) You can watch the live stream at Flotrack.org (subscription required) and you can download the app here to follow along with live runner tracking. You can also follow along on the ZAP Instagram page for updates throughout the weekend.
