Big Racing Weekend Ahead for ZAP-Reebok Team

PC: Anne Jones

After a brief hiatus from racing over the last few weeks the ZAP-Reebok team is back in full swing this weekend with 3 races taking place across the country Sunday morning. Johnny Crain and ZAP training partner Pardon Ndhlovu will be racing the Chicago Marathon. Andrew Colley and Matt McClintock will be a few hundred miles north for the US 10 Mile Championships at the Twin Cities 10 Miler, run from Minneapolis to St. Paul. And Nicole will be competing at the Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon in San Jose, CA.

Crain is coming off a summer season where he saw the best racing of his career. He finished 11th at the BAA 10k in June and then 10th overall and 1st among Americans at the Utica Boilermaker 15k in July. His previous marathon was last December at the US Marathon Championships where he ran his PR of 2:15:46. He will have his sights set on lowering that mark and achieving the Olympic Trials “A” standard this weekend. Crain has trained nearly every step of the way with Pardon Ndhlovu, who will be looking to run a personal best of his own as he takes steps toward making his 2nd Olympic team for his native Zimbabwe in 2020.

McClintock and Colley will be running their first race since taking a break coming off a summer track and road racing seasons. McClintock last raced at the USA Track and Field Championships in June where he placed 6th in 10,000m. Colley’s last race was the Bix 7 in July where he finished 4th overall after placing 6th at the Peachtree Road Race.  McClintock is in the early stages of training for his debut marathon at the California International Marathon which will once again play host to the US Championships.

For DiMercurio, the Rock n’ Roll San Jose Half Marathon represents the final race of her summer / fall season. She had a successful race at the BAA 10k and then took 8th place overall and 2nd among Americans at the Bix 7 road race before succumbing to heat exhaustion at the New Haven 20k on Labor Day. She has bounced back and is looking forward to finishing off her season with a fast half marathon.
