Izewski Breaks CR at Bobby Doyle 5 Miler

First year ZAP-Reebok athlete Josh Izewski competed in the Bobby Doyle 5 Miler on Sunday in Narragansett, Rhode Island. For Izewski it was a chance to compete for the 2nd time since returning from a nagging hamstring injury that saw him miss the end of the spring and the early summer. In his return to racing 4 weeks ago Izewski finished 4th at the Crazy 8’s Road Race, which was the highest and American has finished there in over 20 years.

On a warm, muggy morning in Rhode Island Izewski shot to the front of the field at the start and never looked back. Izewski passed the mile mark in 4:38 and hit 2 miles in 9:15. By the time he reached the 5k mark in 14:26 he had a 40 second lead and the only question that remained was how fast he would run. Izweski slowed slightly over the rolling hills in the final 2 miles but stretched his lead to nearly a minute by the finish. Izewski’s time of 23:32 also broke the 7 year old course record by 7 seconds.

Check out Izweski’s post race interview here. Next up for Izewski will be The Philly 10k on August 26th and then the US 20k Championships on Labor Day at the New Haven Road Race.
